Holy Week Leads to Easter Joy

Holy-WeekDid you know this week is Holy Week? And the best part is that Holy Week Leads to Easter Joy. Allow a further explanation.

The Sunday before Easter is known as Palm Sunday, the day when Jesus triumphantly rides into Jerusalem. He is riding a lowly donkey, while people line his path with Palm Branches and cloaks, singing praises, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (Mark 11: 9-10) Looks like things are starting off on a high note, but they quickly take a turn.  How can Holy Week Lead to Easter Joy? This link provides a more detailed account of Holy Week.

By Wednesday, Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples went to the chief priests with plans to betray Jesus.  Thursday Jesus held the last supper with his disciples, prayed earnestly in the Garden of Gethsemane, then was arrested and denied by Peter.

Friday began the trial, mocking, torture, crucifixion and death of Jesus. Doesn’t sound like the set of circumstances to be remembered or celebrated does it. But wait for it…Sunday is coming, Easter Sunday that is, when Jesus rises triumphantly from the grave. Death has been defeated, Jesus paid our debt of sin to set us free. The victory is ours in Christ.

So while there is a range of events and emotions that take place after Palm Sunday, we can rest knowing that Holy Week Leads to Easter Joy!
