Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated annually on July 4. It commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which formally announced the separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain.

The 4th of July holiday is marked by various patriotic and leisure activities, including:

Decorations featuring the red, white, and blue colors of the American flag
